Pétur Þór Benediktsson a.k.a. Pétur Ben is an award winning composer and singer-songwriter based in Reykjavik, Iceland.
In December of 2025, Pétur Ben released his new album, Painted Blue.
The album joins the critically acclaimed solo albums God’s Lonely Man and Wine for My Weakness.
While Wine for My Weakness won the Icelandic Music Award for Best Rock Album, God’s Lonely Man received, in addition to outstanding reviews, the Kraumur Award and a nomination for the Icelandic Music Award for Best Album.
Pétur Ben‘s original scores for director Ragnar Bragason’s Metalhead (2013) and Prisoners (2017) both won the Edda Award for Best Film Score.
Pétur Ben’s music ranges from minimal contemporary folk songs to black metal. He has written music for chamber ensembles and choirs, and is a founding member and former conductor of KLIÐUR, the renowned choir collective of Reykjavik creatives.
He is currently working as a producer, arranger, solo artist and session guitarist. His extensive list of collaborators includes Ásgeir, Shahzad Ismaily, Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, Mugison, Efterklang, Oyama, Slow Blow, Valdimar, Sóley, Amiina, Lay Low, Emiliana Torrini, Helgi Jónsson, Tina Dickow, Marketa Irglova, Peter Broderick, and B.O.X. (Baroque Orchestration X) among others.
