Singer-songwriter and pianist Afra Kane, winner of the prestigious Montreux Jazz Talent Award, has firmly established herself as one of the most exciting neo-soul and jazz artists of her generation.
Her music defies easy categorization, blending genres into a cinematic soundscape. Kane describes her style as a fusion of jazz and progressive R&B. Through her music, she seeks to create an alternative reality—one where self-discovery and healing unfold through fearless emotional expression, embracing dualities such as faith and doubt, fear and empowerment, discovery and surrender.
With her latest album Could We Be Whole (Warner Music, 2024), Kane further solidifies her reputation as a captivating and versatile vocalist. Her intimate, almost mystical creative approach shines through in virtuosic arrangements and a voice that is both powerful and seductive—music that is felt rather than defined.
Kane has graced renowned stages across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, including Rockwood Music Hall in New York, Café Carlyle in Hong Kong—an acclaimed offshoot of the iconic New York club that has hosted legends such as Eartha Kitt and Woody Allen—and Berlin’s legendary jazz club A-Trane, where artists like Herbie Hancock have performed. She has been the guest act on Jack Savoretti’s Italy tour and appeared at major festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival, Leverkusen Jazztage, and Festival de Jazz de St. Moritz.
Highlights of her 2025 concert calendar include performances at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, an Italy tour with shows in Milan and Turin, and an extensive South American tour with concerts throughout Chile and Peru.
Before releasing Could We Be Whole, Kane had already earned critical acclaim with her debut album Hypersensitive (2022), the EP Scorpio (2019), and several singles—including Mouth Shut, which was selected by BBC Music Introducing as “Record of the Week.”
Currently based between England and Switzerland, Kane began playing piano at an early age. Her exceptional talent led her to classical training at prestigious institutions such as the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (Wales) and the Haute École de Musique de Genève (Switzerland). Her diverse musical interests soon found expression in songwriting, where she fused her classical background with elements of jazz, soul, R&B, and future funk to create her distinctive cinematic sound.
Winning the Montreux Jazz Talent Award—judged by an esteemed panel including Stanley Clarke, Chilly Gonzales, Carl Craig, and Chucho Valdés—laid the foundation for Afra Kane’s promising international career.
